To unionize is for workers to form a union at their workplace, or to join one. It works two ways. Workers can unionize by themselves — "the drivers voted to unionize" — and here no object follows the verb. Or an organiser can unionize a workplace, meaning they get the workers there signed up: "they spent two years trying to unionize the warehouse". You very often meet it in the passive, "the factory is unionized", which describes the settled state rather than the act. Because unions are a fighting matter, the word usually shows up in a story with two sides in it: workers trying to unionize, and a company trying to stop them. The British spelling is unionise; American writing uses the z. Do not confuse the shape of this word with words like "realize" or "recognize" in one respect — with unionize, the -ize really is doing its job of "make into", which is why the meaning is so easy to read off the parts.
組成union（工會）+ -ize（使成為、變成）。The -ize ending makes a verb meaning "turn something into this": modern → modernize, standard → standardize, union → unionize.
