Moving or happening slowly, and — this is the important half — calmly, with no sign of stress. An unhurried walk, an unhurried breakfast, an unhurried voice. English has plenty of words for slow, and most of them are complaints: sluggish, dawdling, slow-moving, behind schedule. 'Unhurried' is the kind one. It says the slowness is chosen, comfortable, even attractive. A doctor who is unhurried makes you feel looked after; a doctor who is slow makes you look at your watch. That difference is the whole reason the word exists. It describes people, their movements, their speech, and also whole scenes and periods of time: an unhurried afternoon, the unhurried pace of village life. Because it praises calm, it turns up constantly in travel writing, restaurant reviews and descriptions of the countryside. It is fairly formal and much more written than spoken. In speech people say 'nice and slow', 'taking his time', 'relaxed', 'no rush'.
