The adverb of "" — doing something in a way that is not polite or friendly, when warmth was clearly called for. It describes HOW an action is done, so it sits next to verbs: he accepted ungraciously, she agreed ungraciously, they responded ungraciously. And there is a pattern worth noticing. Because "ungraciously" so often attaches to verbs like accept, agree, apologise, thank, admit, congratulate, the sentence usually says: the person did the right thing, but did it badly. That gap is the whole point of the word. "He apologised ungraciously" means an apology happened and it made things worse. Compare "he refused ungraciously" — the refusal was already unwelcome, and the manner added insult. The word is formal and mostly written; in speech people say "he wasn't very nice about it" or "he agreed but in a bad way."
