That is the shape of this word: it describes a state of mind AFTER someone has tried to persuade you. This is why it is stronger and more interesting than a simple 'I don't believe you'. It quietly says: you had your chance, and it did not work. So it is often used politely to disagree without a fight — 'I remain unconvinced' is a very English way of saying no. It usually appears after a linking verb: be unconvinced, remain unconvinced, seem unconvinced, look unconvinced. Common patterns are 'unconvinced by' something (unconvinced by his excuse), 'unconvinced that' plus a clause, and 'unconvinced of' plus a noun.
