A typewriter is an old machine with keys, like a keyboard, that you press to print letters directly onto paper one at a time, with no screen. Before computers, people used typewriters in offices to write letters and documents. You still see them in old movies, in some writers' homes, since a few writers like the feel of typing on one, and sometimes in antique shops. The old mechanical kind needs no electricity to work, and it makes a loud clacking sound as you type.
