The twitterati are the loud, well-known, influential people on Twitter — the ones whose posts get quoted in the news, who start arguments that thousands of people join. It is a collective word, always plural in feeling: you do not call one person a twitterati. Journalists use it when they want to say 'the opinion of people on Twitter', usually with a small roll of the eyes, as if these voices think they matter more than they do. So it is lightly mocking, not neutral. It belongs to a specific time — roughly 2008 to 2020, when Twitter was where public arguments happened. Since the site was X in 2023, the word has begun to sound dated, and you will meet it mostly in older articles. Learn it to read, not to use.
