A tricycle is a cycle with three wheels — usually one at the front and two at the back — that does not fall over when it stands still. Most often it means a small one for a young child who is not ready for a bicycle, and in everyday speech, especially with children, people shorten it to trike. But it is not only a children's word. There are adult tricycles for older people who want a steadier ride, delivery tricycles with a big box in front, and in many Asian countries motorised three-wheelers used as taxis are called tricycles in English. There is also a verb, to tricycle, meaning to ride one, but it sounds odd and almost nobody uses it — say 'ride a tricycle' instead.
