A treehouse is a small wooden house built up in the branches of a tree, usually for children to play in. Boards, a floor, some walls, maybe a roof, and a ladder or a rope to climb up. Sometimes a parent builds it properly; sometimes it is a few planks nailed across two branches and the children call it a house anyway. Both count. In English it carries a strong feeling of childhood, of a private place adults cannot easily reach — a secret club, a hiding place, somewhere you go to be away from everyone. That feeling is why the word shows up so often in stories and films, and why grown-ups say 'we had a treehouse' the way they say 'we had a dog'. Two practical notes. The spelling wanders: treehouse, tree house, and tree-house are all found, with the one-word form now the most common. And there is a newer use — expensive hotels and cafés build fancy versions for adults and advertise 'treehouse rooms', which stretches the word away from children but keeps the same magic. In Taiwan you will see this on 森林系 cafés and 民宿 signs.
