Trashy means very bad, cheap, and worth nothing. It has two flavours that often overlap. The first is quality: trashy furniture breaks, a trashy phone case cracks in a week, trashy writing is lazy. The second is taste: a trashy magazine full of gossip, a trashy film with silly plots and lots of shouting, trashy clothes that look cheap and try too hard. This second flavour is where the word gets interesting, because English speakers often say 'trashy' about things they enjoy. 'It's a trashy novel but I love it.' 'We watched a trashy movie and ate ice cream.' The word admits the thing is low quality while confessing you like it anyway — that is a real and common use, not a mistake. But be careful with people. Calling a person trashy is a serious insult about their behaviour, their class, and their morals, and it is not affectionate at all. In the United States 'white trash' is a strong class slur, and 'trashy' carries some of that weight when aimed at a person. Use it for things, not people.
