Translational is mostly used in two technical fields. In science and medicine, 'translational research' means work that takes discoveries made in a lab and turns them into real treatments or tools that actually help patients - moving knowledge 'across' from theory to practice. In physics, 'translational motion' means movement in a straight line from one place to another, as opposed to spinning in place (rotational motion). It's rarely used in the everyday sense of language translation.
