    Titania is the queen of the fairies in Shakespeare's play A Night's Dream. Her husband is Oberon, the fairy king, and the play begins with the two of them fighting — over a boy she refuses to give him. To win the argument Oberon has a magic flower juice put on her eyes while she sleeps, so that she will fall in love with the first thing she sees when she wakes. She wakes and sees Bottom, a whose head has been turned into a donkey's head, and she adores him. It is one of the most famous funny scenes in English theatre, and it is also why the name is remembered: Titania is beautiful, proud and powerful, and the play makes her ridiculous for a while before giving her back her dignity. In English the name is usually said "ti-TAH-nia" or "ti-TAY-nia" — both are heard. Outside the theatre you meet the name in art, in music, and as the name of one of Uranus's moons. It is not an everyday word; it belongs to literature class.

組成Not an English word split into pieces. Shakespeare took it from the Roman poet Ovid, where Titania was a name for Diana, the goddess of the moon and the wild — literally a female of the Titan line. Because fairies were thought of as being like the nymphs of the old stories, the fairy queen got the goddess's name.
