1. 1

In football (soccer), a throw-in is what happens when the ball has gone off the side of the pitch: a player from the other team stands outside the line and throws the ball back onto the field with both hands, over their head, with both feet staying on the ground. It is one of the ways play restarts, like a corner or a goal kick.

In football (soccer)在足球裡, when the ball has gone off the side of the pitch當球從邊線出了場外, a throw-in is what happens接下來發生的就是 throw-in: a player from the other team對方的一名球員 stands outside the line站在線外, with both hands用雙手 over their head從頭頂上方 throws the ball back onto the field把球擲回場內, with both feet staying on the ground兩腳都要留在地上。 It is one of the ways play restarts它是比賽重新開始的方式之一, like a corner or a goal kick就像角球或球門球。

The word is a noun, and it is written with a — 'we got a throw-in', 'he took the throw-in'. Note the verb we use with it: you take a throw-in, you do not 'do' or 'make' one.

The word is a noun這個字是名詞, and it is written with a hyphen寫的時候帶連字號—— 'we got a throw-in'我們獲得一個界外球、 'he took the throw-in'他發了那個界外球。 Note the verb we use with it注意搭配的動詞: you take a throw-in界外球是用 take, you do not 'do' or 'make' one不說 'do' 也不說 'make'。

The same word is used in rugby league and in some other sports for a similar restart. Keep it apart from the two-word verb 'throw in', which means to add something extra for free ('buy the phone and they throw in a case') or to throw something into a place.

The same word同一個字 in rugby league and in some other sports在聯盟式橄欖球和一些別的運動裡, is used for a similar restart也用來指類似的重新開球。 Keep it apart from把它和 the two-word verb 'throw in'分開寫成兩個字的動詞 'throw in' 區分開來, which means那個的意思是 to add something extra for free免費加送一樣東西 ('buy the phone and they throw in a case'買手機他們就送一個殼), or to throw something into a place或是把東西丟進某個地方。
