Throatily describes a sound made in a way that is low, rough, and seems to come from deep in the throat rather than clearly from the mouth. You use it with verbs of sound-making: laugh throatily, sing throatily, chuckle throatily, say something throatily. The picture is a voice with a grain in it — deep, a little husky, a little rough at the edges. The feeling attached is usually attractive rather than unpleasant, which surprises students. A throaty laugh in a novel is warm and knowing; a throatily sung note is rich; a throatily whispered line is meant to sound sexy. That is quite different from the roughness of illness, which English handles with 'hoarsely' or 'croakily'.
