Texan is the word for a person from Texas, and also the adjective for anything belonging to Texas — a Texan accent, Texan beef, the Texan flag. Texas itself is a huge state in the south of the US, sharing a long border with Mexico, known for oil and gas, cattle, and cities like Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin and El Paso. The word carries feeling, not just facts. Texas was its own country for nine years before joining the US in 1845, and Texans have never quite let that go; 'I'm a Texan' is often said with more pride than 'I'm an American'. So when a writer calls someone 'a real Texan', they usually mean more than a place of birth — they mean big, plain-spoken, independent, maybe wearing boots. That picture is a stereotype, and Texans themselves both enjoy it and complain about it, since most of them live in large modern cities and have never touched a horse. Watch the spelling change: Texas ends in -as, but the person is a Texan, with one 's' dropped. Both the noun and the adjective always take a capital T.
組成Texas + the ending -an, which turns a place name into 'a person from there' or 'belonging to there'. That -an came into English through French from Latin -anus, and it is the same ending in American, Korean and Italian.
