1. 1a/ˈmeksəkən/from Mexico墨西哥的

Connected with Mexico: coming from Mexico, belonging to Mexico, or done in the Mexican way — used of the country's government and border, its people, its food and its culture.

    Mexican 是 Mexico 的形容詞。凡是跟墨西哥有關的東西,都可以用它來形容。可以是國家層級的,例如 the Mexican government、the Mexican border。也可以是生活裡的,例如 Mexican food、Mexican music。開頭的 M 一定要大寫,因為它是從國名來的。要說「更有墨西哥味」,用 more Mexican,不能加 -er。它也可以講一個人的血統,例如 Mexican-American。中文常直接譯成「墨西哥的」或「墨式的」。

    示範例句 · Example

We had Mexican food for Leo's birthday.

    中文翻譯我們在里歐生日的時候吃了墨西哥食物。

This is the adjective made from the country's name, so it can attach to almost anything the country has. It covers official things such as the Mexican government and the Mexican border, and everyday things such as Mexican food and Mexican music. It always keeps its capital M, because it comes from a proper name. To say something is more strongly Mexican in flavour you use more Mexican, never Mexicaner.

  2. 2n/ˈmeksəkən/a Mexican person墨西哥人

A person who comes from Mexico, or whose family came from Mexico.

    Mexican 當名詞就是「墨西哥人」。可以指在墨西哥出生長大的人。也可以指祖先來自墨西哥、現在住在別的地方的人。複數是 Mexicans,開頭一樣大寫。當名詞用時前面通常要有 a 或 the:He is a Mexican。不過日常講話常常改用形容詞:He's Mexican。兩種都對,形容詞的說法聽起來比較自然一點。要數人、或要對比的時候,名詞形就很好用。

As a noun it names the person, so it takes a or the and has the plural Mexicans. It covers people living in Mexico and people whose family came from there and who now live somewhere else. In everyday speech people more often use the adjective — he's Mexican — and keep the noun for counting or contrasting: two Mexicans, the first Mexican to win.
