Something or someone that ends or stops something. Most people today know the word from the 'Terminator' movies, about a robot sent from the future. In science, a 'terminator' is the line on a moon or planet that separates its side from its dark side. Outside of science and that movie, it's a fairly rare, formal word - everyday English usually just says 'ended' or 'stopped'.
