1. 1

A "Templar" (usually written with a capital T, as in "Knights Templar") was a member of a group of Christian soldier-monks from long ago in Europe, around 900 years back. They started by protecting travelers going to the holy city of Jerusalem, and later became famous, powerful, and very rich — until the group was shut down. Today "Templar" still shows up a lot in books, movies, and video games, often as a name for a knight-like character or a secret order, even when it has nothing directly to do with the real history.
