A person who is trained in technology — someone whose job involves the practical machines, tools, and methods of a field. It is a formal, job-title kind of word, and it is most alive inside hospitals and laboratories: a 'medical technologist' or 'laboratory technologist' is the person who runs the tests on your blood sample, and a 'radiologic technologist' operates the X-ray machine. In that world it is a real qualification with an exam behind it, not a loose description. Outside hospitals, the word is used more loosely in writing about industry — 'engineers and technologists' — where it points at people who apply technology rather than people who invent the science behind it. Ordinary people almost never call themselves this in conversation; they say 'I work in IT', 'I'm an engineer', 'I do the lab tests'. Also worth knowing: in American English, 'technologist' often sits above 'technician' in training and pay, though the line moves from place to place and from hospital to hospital.
