A T-junction is the place where one road runs into another and stops there, making the shape of a capital T. The road you are driving on ends; the other road crosses in front of you; you must turn left or right, because straight ahead there is no road. That last point is what makes it different from a , where you can go straight through. This is the usual British and Commonwealth word — you will see it on UK road signs and in driving lessons, where 'emerging at a T-junction' is something every practises. Americans more often just say 'T intersection' or describe it ('the road dead-ends into Main Street'). People also borrow it for shapes outside driving: , corridors, and wood joints can all meet in a T-junction. Written forms vary a little — T-junction, T junction — but the is most common.
