Systematization is the act of putting facts, numbers, ideas or ways of working into an organised order — turning a messy pile into a system. If a library has books stacked anywhere and someone gives every book a number and a shelf, that is systematization. If a company writes down the steps everyone should follow instead of letting each person invent their own, that is systematization too. It is the noun from the verb 'systematize', which means to do that. Be honest with your students about the register: this is a heavy, formal, academic word. It appears in scholarly writing, in law, in management reports, in philosophy and in the history of science. It almost never appears in speech — in conversation people say 'organising', 'sorting out', 'setting up a system'. English also has the British spelling 'systematisation' with an s, which means exactly the same thing. And it carries a faint edge in some writing: some authors use it with a hint of disapproval, suggesting that turning something living and human into a tidy system takes something away from it.
