A light dress for hot weather, with no sleeves and often thin straps instead of shoulders — so your arms and shoulders are bare. The name is about the weather, not about a special style: a sundress can be plain cotton or something you would wear to a nice dinner. It is nearly always a summer word, and nearly always about women's and girls' clothes. In American English it is very common; in Britain people say it too, but they may just say "summer dress". Note that a sundress is one piece — dress, not top and skirt.
