For Taiwanese students this word carries history對台灣學生來說,這個字帶著一段歷史 that English speakers do not feel.是英語母語者感受不到的。Under Japanese rule sugarcane was the island's great cash crop,日治時期,甘蔗是這座島上重要的經濟作物, the sugar railways ran everywhere,糖業鐵路四通八達, and 甘蔗 still means childhood, hard farm work, and the sweet juice sold at markets.而甘蔗到現在仍然代表著童年、辛苦的農活,還有市場上賣的那種甜甜的汁。
