The adverb of *succinct*: to say or write something in few words while still making it clear. It attaches to verbs of speaking and writing — put it succinctly, express it succinctly, explain it succinctly, sum it up succinctly.
A very common move in English is "to put it succinctly" or "more succinctly" as a way of signalling that a short version is coming: "To put it succinctly: we cannot afford it." Writers also use it to praise someone else's phrasing — "as she succinctly put it" — which is a polite way of saying *and I could not improve on her wording*.
Because it carries approval, it does not sit well with a complaint. "He answered succinctly" sounds like he did well. If you mean he was short with you because he was , say ** or ** instead — those are the words for short and , and the difference matters socially.
It is a formal, mostly written word. In speech, "in short" and "to put it simply" do the same job and sound more natural.
組成succinct + -ly (the adverb ending). Underneath: Latin sub- "under" + cingere "to belt up" — speech with its belt tightened.
