Subtitles are the written words at the bottom of a screen during a movie or show, usually showing a translation of what's being said, or the words of a foreign-language dialogue in your own language. People also use subtitles when they can't turn up the sound, or to help understand a speaker with a strong accent. Away from video, a 'subtitle' can also mean a smaller, second title under the main title of a book, giving more detail about what the book is about.
