Subsidized describes something whose cost is partly paid by a government or organization, so that the person using it pays less than the real price. Subsidized housing, subsidized meals, subsidized childcare, subsidized loans — in each case somebody else is quietly covering part of the bill. It works two ways in a sentence. As the past form of the verb: 'The city subsidized the bus service for ten years.' And, much more often for learners, as a describing word in front of a noun: 'subsidized housing'. That second use is where you will meet it in TOEIC and in job adverts — 'subsidized lunch', 'subsidized health insurance' are ordinary benefits in an employment package. There is a feeling attached to the word that is worth knowing. Said neutrally, it just means 'cheaper because of support'. But in political argument it can be an accusation: calling a rival's industry 'subsidized' suggests it is not competing fairly, that it survives on help rather than merit. Same word, and the tone tells you which one is meant. Spelling again: subsidized (American, and Oxford British) or subsidised (common British). Both are correct; just be consistent inside one piece of writing.
