A straggler is the one at the back — the person or animal who has fallen behind the rest of the group because they are slower, tired, hurt, or just not keeping up. Think of a school walking party spread out along a mountain path, with two children far behind: those two are the stragglers. The word is common in writing about armies, long walks, , and animals moving together. It usually carries a little worry in it, because the one at the back is the one who gets lost or caught. There is a second, gentler use: stragglers can mean the few people who arrive late or leave last. 'A few stragglers were still finishing their coffee.' No danger there, just lateness. The word can also be used for things — a few straggling flowers still open in November. It comes from the verb straggle, which means to move along in an , spread-out line instead of a tidy group, plus -er for the person who does it.
組成straggle（散開、拖拖拉拉地走，隊伍不成形）+ -er（做這件事的人）。The -er ending is the ordinary one that turns a verb into the person doing it, as in teacher and runner.
