The person who owns or runs a shop — usually a small one, the sort where you know the owner's face. It is mainly American English; British speakers say shopkeeper. Even in America it has a slightly old-fashioned, small-town feeling, the word of country stores and Westerns, and today people more often say shop owner, store owner or just 'the guy who runs the store'. There is a second, quite different use in workplaces: in a factory, a hospital or the army, the storekeeper is the person in charge of the store-room, who keeps count of the supplies and hands them out. That sense has nothing to do with selling; it is a job title, and in the US Navy it is a formal rank.
