Describes something with glue already on the back, so you can just press it onto a surface and it stays: stick-on labels, stick-on stars for a child's ceiling, stick-on hooks, stick-on nails. The point of the word is that you do not need any glue or tools of your own — the sticky part comes with it. It goes in front of a noun and stays there: you say 'a stick-on label', but you would not say 'this label is stick-on' in careful writing, though people do say it casually. It often carries a small hint of 'the easy, temporary version of the real thing' — stick-on tiles are not real tiles, a stick-on tattoo washes off, a stick-on is for a party. That is not always so, but it is worth hearing. Everyday, informal-to-neutral, and very common in shops and instructions. 'Self-adhesive' is the formal word for the same idea, and 'peel-and-stick' is common in American shops.
