The male part of a flower — the part that makes pollen. It has two pieces: a thin stalk called the filament, and a small head at the top called the anther, which is where the pollen sits. Those are the yellow tips that leave dust on your nose when you lean into a lily. The female part is the pistil, with the sticky stigma at its top; pollination is pollen getting from stamen to stigma, carried by bees, wind, birds or a person with a brush. Most flowers have several stamens, sometimes dozens, arranged in a ring around the middle. A flower can have stamens and a pistil both, which is normal, so 'male part' means the part with the male job, not a male flower. This is a biology word. It appears in textbooks, in exam questions, and among gardeners and florists, and almost nowhere else. Note the plural: 'stamens' is the everyday one, though botanical writing sometimes uses the Latin 'stamina'.
