Room in a building for keeping horses — not the horses, not the animals' care, just the space itself. "The farm has stabling for twelve horses" means there is room for twelve. It is an uncountable noun, so you never say a stabling or two stablings; you say stabling for six, plenty of stabling, no stabling. It turns up in advertisements for country houses, on riding-school websites, and in writing about racing, because those are the places where people need to say how many horses a building can hold. Outside that world, most people just say stables. Britain uses it more than America. There is also a second use, mainly on the railways: stabling is where trains are parked overnight, and railway workers talk about stabling sidings — the word travelled from horses to trains, as many railway words did. And because stable can be a verb (to stable a horse is to keep it in a stable), stabling can also be the -ing form of that verb: "He was stabling the horses when we arrived."
