1. 1

A sportswriter is a journalist whose job is writing about sport — match reports, player interviews, opinion columns — for a newspaper, a magazine, or now a website. It is a job title, so it turns up in bylines and introductions: 'a sportswriter for the Guardian'. The word does not just mean anyone who about sport once; it means this is what they do for a living. Note the difference from sportscaster: a sportswriter , a sportscaster talks on air, though these days plenty of people do both, and sportswriters appear on podcasts and television all the time. You will see it written as one word, sportswriter, and sometimes as two, sports writer; both are accepted, with the one-word form more common in American writing.
