    A vegetable with large dark green leaves. You can eat it raw in a salad, or cook it until the leaves go soft.

    「spinach」就是我們說的菠菜——一片一片深綠色的大葉子，可以生吃做沙拉，也可以煮軟了吃。要注意它在英文裡是不可數名詞，所以說 some spinach、a bag of spinach（一袋菠菜），不說 a spinach，也沒有 spinaches。跟 cabbage（高麗菜）、lettuce（生菜）那種「一顆一顆」的菜不一樣，spinach 給人的感覺是散開的一把葉子，所以要數的時候通常數葉子：spinach leaves。

You can picture a bunch of broad, dark green leaves on thin stems. Raw, they are crisp enough to toss into a salad; put them in a hot pan and a whole handful collapses into a small soft pile in seconds. That collapse is the thing people remember about this vegetable.
