To do with space — meaning where things are, how big they are, what shape they have, and how they sit in relation to one another. Not 'outer space'. That is the trap in this word for , because English uses 'space' for both. Spatial is about the ordinary space around us: the gap between two buildings, how furniture fits in a room, whether a shape will slot into a hole. You meet it most in a few set phrases. 'Spatial awareness' is the sense that lets you park a car, walk through a crowd without bumping people, or catch a ball — some people have a lot of it, some very little. 'Spatial reasoning' or 'spatial ability' is what those puzzle tests measure, the ones where you must decide which folded box a flat shape makes. 'Spatial relationship' is how two things sit relative to each other — above, behind, three metres apart. 'Spatial data' in geography and computing means information tied to a location on a map. 'Spatial audio' on headphones means sound that seems to come from around you rather than from inside your head. It is a technical, written word; in normal talk people just say 'where things are'.
