Sending the same message out to huge numbers of people who never asked for it — junk email, mass advertising, scam links. The word carries clear built in, so using it is already a complaint. it does double duty: it is the -ing form of the verb spam ('he was spamming everyone in the office'), and it is also a noun for the activity ('spamming is illegal in many countries'). Both are common. Watch the pattern after it — you spam a person or a place, not a message: 'they spammed my inbox', 'stop spamming the group chat'. The use has a long way past email. Posting the same thing repeatedly in a chat is spamming. In games, spamming a move or a button means pressing it again and again instead of playing , and while that sense is still critical, it is much lighter — half a joke between friends. Note the spelling: spam has one m, but spamming doubles it.
