A small, crowded neighbourhood in central London, just north of Circus. Its name is written with a capital S, like any place name. For a long time Soho was London's night district — theatres, jazz clubs, bars, sex shops, and from the 1960s the centre of London's gay life, with Old Compton Street at its heart. It was also where the music and film businesses kept their offices, so it had a mixed reputation: a bit dirty, a bit , the place people went after dark. Today it is much cleaner and much more expensive, and most people know it for eating: sits on its southern edge along Gerrard Street, and the small streets are full of Italian, Chinese, Japanese and every other kind of restaurant. still say 'Soho' as a shorthand for a lively night out, though older people may hear the older, rougher meaning. Note that New York has a separate SoHo (usually written with a capital H, from 'South of Houston Street'), which is a shopping and art district — a completely different place with an unrelated name.
組成Not a word you can split. Two origin stories are recorded: it may come from 'soho!', an old shout used by hunters when they spotted a hare, back when the area was open hunting ground; or it may be short for 'south house'. Scholars have not settled it, so treat both as possibilities rather than facts.
