    An old and hostile word for a person who does what the speaker calls sodomy — historically, and still in most uses today, aimed at gay men. This is not a neutral description. It comes out of religious and legal condemnation, and anyone who uses it seriously is attacking the person they are talking about. You meet it in old texts: the Bible, court records from centuries ago, historical novels, and writing about how gay people were treated in the past. In modern English it survives mainly as a slur, sometimes used in mocking or theatrical anger. It is a word for reading and understanding history, not for describing anyone. The ordinary, respectful modern words are 'gay man' or 'gay person'.

組成Sodom + -ite. Sodom is a city in the Bible said to have been destroyed for its wickedness; '-ite' is the ending meaning 'a person from that place or group', as in Israelite. So literally 'a person of Sodom'.
