A smasher is a person who is good-looking, or a thing that is wonderful. It is warm, old-fashioned British slang — the kind of thing a grandmother says about a photograph: 'Oh, isn't she a smasher!' You will hear it mostly from older speakers in Britain and Ireland, and it is now quite rare among young people, so it can sound dated. It is always a compliment and never rude. The word is used with a/an: he's a smasher, that's a smasher of a car. When it describes a thing it just means excellent — 'the party was a smasher.' Because it feels old, it is a word to recognise in books, films and songs rather than one to reach for yourself.
