1. 1

A Slurpee is a cold drink made of sweet, usually fruit-flavoured liquid frozen into soft crushed ice, so you can drink it and spoon it at the same time. It comes out of a machine into a big paper or plastic cup, and it is bright — blue, red, green. The important thing is that Slurpee is a brand name, owned by 7-Eleven, written with a capital S. It is the same idea as the Slush Puppie or, at other shops, a 'frozen drink' or 'slushie'. In the United States, Canada and Australia, 7-Eleven is so common that many people just say 'Slurpee' for any drink of this kind, the way people say for tissues. In Taiwan, 7-Eleven sells this drink as 思樂冰 — a name older people remember with a lot of affection, because it was a summer treat of the 80s and 90s. It disappeared for years and comes back from time to time, which is why you sometimes see people online getting about it. So 'Slurpee' and 思樂冰 are the same product wearing different names in different countries. If you are talking to an American friend, 'Slurpee' will be instantly understood; if you are talking to a British friend, say 'slushie' instead, because Slurpee machines are rare there.
