    If someone is slow-witted, they take a long time to understand things, or they do not understand them well. It is about the mind, not the body: they are not 'slow' because they walk slowly, but because an idea does not click quickly. People also say 'a bit slow' with the same meaning. It can sound , even when a teacher only means 'this student needs more time.' Though actually, in real talk it often does feel like an insult, so be careful who you say it to. The opposite idea is quick-witted: someone who gets a joke or a problem almost at once.
