    To slobber is to let spit run out of your mouth and down your chin — the way a dog does when it sees food, or a baby does when it is teething. The wet stuff itself is also called slobber. People use it of animals more than of adults; of a person it sounds or comic. There is a stretched use too: if someone slobbers over a famous person or a new car, they show their liking in a messy, over-the-top way, as if they cannot keep it in. The word comes from Middle English sloberen, borrowed from Middle Dutch slobberen (Dutch still has slobberen). It is a of older English slabber and slaver, which mean nearly the same thing. In the spit sense it is not, though it looks it, from the same place as slob, which is from Irish.
