1. 1

Skijoring is the winter sport of skiing while dogs — or sometimes a horse or a machine — pull you over snow or ice. You wear skis and hold a line from a harness. It comes from Norway. People race it, and some families do it for fun in snowy countries. It is not a word you hear much in Taiwan, except in writing about winter sports. Though actually the pulling animal is not always a dog; posters often show dogs, so that is the picture in most learners' minds. Do not picture a person sitting on a sled: in skijoring you stay on your skis.
