If an idea is simplistic, it treats a hard subject as if it were easy — too few parts, too clean an answer. It is almost never a compliment. A simplistic plan for peace; a simplistic view of why people are poor. Teachers, , and newspaper writers use it when they think someone has skipped the mess. Though actually, simple and simplistic sit next to each other and that is where students slip. Simple can be praise: a simple explanation that still tells the truth. Simplistic is the complaint that the explanation has gone too far and left the truth behind. It is an adjective, a little educated, common in essays and reviews, less common in very casual speech, where people more often say “that’s too simple.” People also stretch it to a person: “he is being simplistic” points at the thinking, not at the whole personality.

組成Built on simple, then the endings -ist and -ic. The extra pieces give it the feel of “in the manner of someone who over-simplifies,” which is why the word is a criticism, not a cousin of simple in tone.
