Simplicity is the quality of being simple: not many parts, not hard to follow, not dressed up. The sense that matters most here is when that quality is attractive or useful — a dress chosen for its simplicity, a tool whose simplicity is the whole point, a plan that works because it does not try to do twelve jobs at once. People reach for the word when they are tired of fuss. Though actually, it has softer lives too. Older writing talks of the simplicity of country life, meaning a plain way of living, and of a person's simplicity, meaning a kind of openness that can sit close to innocence. Hear the tone on that last use: it can be warm, or it can slide toward “a bit naive.” In design, cooking, and school it is usually praise. It is a noun, a little more formal than just saying “it’s simple,” but ordinary educated English, not specialist .
