    If a person is sighted, they can see. They are not blind. You meet this word when people are talking about blindness: a sighted guide, sighted , the sighted world. Though actually, in ordinary talk almost nobody says they are sighted; they just say they can see. Sighted is the careful opposite of blind, used when that contrast matters. The same spelling appears in we sighted a ship (we saw it far away) — that is a different meaning, more like spotted.
