    A showplace is a place people are invited to look at because it is beautiful, old, or impressive — a house, a garden, a town, a palace. It is open to the eye, and often to visitors. It is not a shop floor (that is a ) and not the best item in a collection (that is a ). The word is a little old-fashioned and a little proud: this is a place we show off. Tourist attraction covers some of the same ground, but showplace has more of look how fine this is.
