A showpiece is the thing an organisation most wants you to see, because it is a fine or successful example and it makes them look good. It might be a product, a building, a school, a government project, or one work in an exhibition. The showpiece of the museum is the object they put in the best light. It sits near masterpiece, but it is not the same: a masterpiece is great as art; a showpiece is great as display — the face they turn to the world. Though actually, people sometimes use it with a little doubt: the shiny hospital that is the showpiece, while other hospitals wait.
