A short-haul flight or plane is one that does not go very far — often a few hours or less, like Taipei to Tokyo, or one city to the next. Airlines and news people use this word; ordinary passengers more often just say a short flight, or name the two places. The opposite is long-haul: those are the long, tiring ones, often overnight, with meals and films. Though actually, there is no magic number of kilometres. One company may call a four-hour flight short-haul; another may call it medium-haul. Haul here is not about pulling a suitcase. In transport talk, a haul is the trip itself — how far you carry people or goods. You will also hear it as a kind of business: an airline's short-haul routes.
