The shirtfront is the front part of a shirt — the piece that covers your chest, where the buttons usually sit. People who talk about clothes, uniforms, or stains use it as a quiet, normal word. It is not the whole shirt, and it is not the back. Though actually, in Australia people also turned it into a verb: to shirtfront someone is to go straight at them, chest first, like a rugby player, and politicians later used it to mean “I will face you and fight you in public.” That verb is rough and sporty. The noun on a shirt is just a part of clothing.
