Shingles is an illness, not a thing you put on a roof. Years after chickenpox, the same virus can hide in the body and then wake up. When it does, it makes a strip of painful red spots — often on the chest, back, or face, and usually on one side only. The skin can burn, sting, and ; older people especially may still feel pain after the spots have gone. You do not “catch shingles” the way you catch a cold, though actually a person who has shingles can give chickenpox to someone who has never had it, because it is the same virus. Doctors can help more if you go early. The old name pictures a belt: the rash often wraps around you like one.
組成From Latin cingulus / cingulum, “girdle” or belt (translating older Greek words for a belt). The rash often sits in a band around the body.
