If a roof or a wall is shingled, it is covered with shingles: thin, overlapping pieces laid so rain runs off, a bit like fish scales. Older ones were wood; many houses now use thick sheets that look like tiles. The word here is an adjective (a shingled roof, shingled walls). In North America this look is very common; in Taiwan you more often see other kinds of tile, so the picture may be less familiar, though actually some cabins and Western-style houses here use it too. Shingled does not mean “made of ceramic roof tiles” in the Taiwan everyday sense, and it does not mean the painful skin illness called shingles — that word only looks the same. If someone says the house is shingled, they mean the covering, piece overlapping piece.
